Types Of Used John Deere Tractors

Whenever considering a tractor, new or used, it’s important to know what type of tractor you need.  There are a few different types of used John Deere tractors to meet different needs.  The basic uses of tractors are farming and agriculture and engineering tasks.

The farming tractor is the commercial scale tractor.  If you’re looking for used John Deere tractors for use in a commercial farm, the farming tractor is what you need.  The most common variation of the farming tractor is the hoe, or hoe-loader. The hoe-loader tractor has a loader assembly on the front and a backhoe on the back. In modern tractors, the backhoe attaches to the tractor via a 3 point hitch. There are typically two options in regards to the backhoe.  The backhoe can either be permanently attached or removable.  In the permanently attached scenario, the seat can swivel to the rear to face the hoe controls. Removable backhoe attachments almost always have a separate seat on the attachment.

Backhoes are suitable for a wide range of tasks such as construction, small demolitions, light transportation of building materials, powering building equipment, digging holes, loading trucks, breaking asphalt and paving roads. The front assembly may be a removable attachment or permanently mounted. Often the bucket can be replaced with other devices or tools.  Some bucket loaders have a retractable bottom.  A retractable bottom allows the operator to empty their load quickly and efficiently. This type of system is very well suited for grading jobs.  Backhoe-loaders have a small frame which makes them ideal for urban engineering projects and construction that is inaccessible by larger equipment.

Another popular tractor to consider when looking at used John Deere tractors is the compact utility tractor.  A compact utility tractor, also called a CUT is a smaller version of an agricultural tractor that is designed for use in landscaping projects.  It’s common for a CUT to be equipped with a mid and rear power take off (PTO).  This makes the CUT ideal for non commercial scale agricultural tasks such as mowing, plowing, or seeding.  Common implements for CUTs are a box blade, the grader blade, the landscape rake, the post auger, the rotary cutter, a mid or rear mount finish mower, broadcast seeder, subsoiler and the rototiller.

The final type of used John Deere tractors to consider is the garden tractor.  John Deere also manufactures tractors for use in domestic gardens.  There are a wide variety of used John Deere tractors available in this category.  Garden tractors are small, light and simple tractors designed for use in domestic lawn and garden applications. Differentiating between a riding mower and a garden tractor can often times be quite difficult. Garden tractors are typically heavier in build (stronger frames, axles and transmissions) than most riding mowers. Unlike dedicated mowers, garden tractors are capable of mounting other implements, however are primarily used for mowing.  A garden tractor should be considered for use when you have light duty requirements, aside from mowing, such as cultivating.
